Case Studies
Project: Hilton Hawaiian Village
Grand Waikikian
Location: Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii
Services Rendered: Firestopping
Project Goal: Firestop thru penetrations on fire sprinkler, mechanical and plumbing for a 40-story hotel condo with shops. Fire safe slab edges on 40-stories to keep fire containment at each floor.
Project Challenges: Coordination and scheduling with other trades including carpenters, plumbers, HVAC, drywall, excavators, crane operators and specialty contractors. Some architectural designs created larger than normal openings in wall slab edges. Engineering judgements were obtained to meet life safety requirements and fire safe openings greater than 8 inches
Project: Hilton Hawaiian Village
Grand Waikikian
Location: Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii
Services Rendered: Thermal Insulation
Project Goal: Insulation of chill water piping and equipment, hot water piping, HVCAC ducts and condensate drain piping, generator exhaust piping and muffler and underground plumbing piping. This was a large project, 40-story condo hotel with shops.
Project Challenges: Coordination and scheduling with other trades including carpenters, plumbers, HVAC, drywall, excavators, crane operators and specialty contractors. There were issues with the logistics of getting materials from the mainland suppliers in a timely manner and at times there were weather related delays especially when working on the building roof areas.
